Geannette Wittendorf can appreciate the time and dedication it takes for her favorite athletes and sports teams to prepare and maintain game-ready physiques throughout every season. However, even elite athletes are susceptible to lack of motivation. During the cold, dark months of winter, some athletes need a little extra motivation to push through their bulking or off seasons, but it doesn't need to be as difficult as we sometimes make it seem.

Here are 4 simple ways to stay active and game ready this winter:

First thing's first, set your goal

Setting a concrete goal can help keep yourself accountable and keep your motivation high by visualizing what you're really aiming for. It can also help keep things in perspective of how often and how hard you're going to have to work in oder to reach that goal. Visualizing and setting a goal is a simple and effective way to help keep any athlete on track from novice to advanced - whether it's lifting more weight or running a quicker time.

Schedule your training

Just like setting your initial goal, scheduling your workouts can also be extremely beneficial in helping you stay motivated and on track with your sports training goals. Depending on what your actual goal is, your training will vary. What's most important here is that you're making an effort to write it down somewhere and carve out time in order to add that training session to your schedule. Making the time for it is a plan of action.

Workout with a friend

Working out with a friend can also help keep you motivated on those days where you just don't want to train. Having someone else with similar goals will help push you toward your own. Plus, working out with a partner is just more fun sometimes! It will help lift your spirits and keep you on track.

Prep for the holidays

The holidays are usually accompanied with eating, drinking, traveling and sometimes a little extra added stress. Preparing yourself before you're faced with what the holidays bring can help give you confidence and security knowing you're prepared to stay healthy and on track with your goals throughout the holidays. That doesn't mean restrict yourself, just be mindful of what you truly want - you main goal, remember tip #1? Keep your eye on the prize.
